Отдельный элемент (лист или узел дерева) системы доменных имён DNS.
Строго говоря, слово "домен" подразумевает некую область имён, однако термин "доменное имя" применяется не только к промежуточным элементам DNS (зонам), но и к конечным именам: например, www.microsoft.com — такое же доменное имя, как microsoft.com, com и корень дерева имён.
Уникальный идентификатор, который назначается определенному IP-адресу. Доменное имя дает возможность обращаться к компьютеру по имени типа www.company.com, вместо запоминания его числового эквивалента [http://www.webxpert.ru/slovar.html].

 Буквенно-цифровое наименование, которое в сочетании с наименованием домена Интернета высшего уровня (TLD) представляет собой уникальное наименование, состоящее из последовательности меток от узла в корне домена до корня всей древовидной структуры с точками, разделяющими метки Зарегистрированное имя отдельной личности или организации, получившей право пользования интернетом. Имена доменов состоят из двух частей и разделяются точкой. Слева находится имя, уникальное для каждого имени домена высшего уровня, которое ставится справа от точки. Например, имя домена АНО «Радиочастотный центр МО» представляет собой rfcmd.ru. «RFCMD» является уникальным именем внутри имени домена высшего уровня «ru». (МСЭ-Т Е.910, МСЭ-D «Тенденции реформирования электросвязи», 2007).
